27. Nuzhat Returns from UK

At this point of time, Nuzhat and Tarique were in England, Nikhat was in America, Reyaz was in Jamshedpur, Shahnaz was in Ranchi. Ejaz was off and on in Patna as part of his bank training. I had no one to fall back to except my Allah. By the time Neyaz was ready for his departure, it was time for Nuzhat to come back. Tarique did not find that place conducive enough to stay for longer time. When I eventually went to England to attend the wedding of Nuzhat’s daughter Hena, we all stayed in the house of her samdhi Aneesuz Zaman. I then heard the praise from his mouth for Nuzhat for the hard work put in by her when they were in England earlier. She used to  look after the kids all day long and do the cooking while at night she opted for the emergency duty which was remunerative twice as much. With that kind of earning she got presents for one and all back home.  Words fail me to describe her magnanimity. Age old saying is that branches of tree bestowed with plenty of fruits is always bowed down towards the ground whereas a fruitless tree only tries to stand stiff in vain. Similar humility is witnessed in her children.

Shamima, I found was very efficient and performed every household chore  with perfection. May God give long life to Anees and Shamima for both of them bestowed respect and affection on me, in abundance.

Ultimately the telegram arrived from Tarique detailing the schedule of his arrival. It was a moment of happiness for me as I made myself busy making kulchas and halwa for the kids. At the schedule time, at the station we all reached to receive him. Tarique’s brothers and friends etc were also there. In our entire family this was the first occasion when the daughter and son in law were returning from England after higher studies.

I was under the impression that Tarique will be attired in an impressive looking English suit. When he eventually arrived, he was wearing a crushed cotton kurta and pajama and bedroom slippers. From the station, he went straight to his Musallahpur residence to meet his Khala Amman. His elder brother Waris had passed away while Tarique was in England and Nuzhat later told me later that being the reason for not changing the dress for his reception at the station. Moreover, after getting acclimatized with the cold climate in England, all four of them were finding the heat here a bit difficult to bear.

Before Nuzhat and Tarique had left for England, both of them were in govt. job in Purnea hospital itself as doctor Saheb was then at the helm of affairs. On their return, however, the two of them got postings at two different remote rural places. Towing the line of Tarique’s brother in law Zia, who had resigned from the govt. job and soon had become a leading surgeon of the entire area, both Tarique and Nuzhat also resigned and opted for private medical practice. For a long period Tarique lived jointly with his sister Mobina  who was very loving and extremely fond of her brother as well as Nuzhat.

Their practice soon picked up and in the same locality of Line Bazaar they later constructed their own huge clinic which was of the size of a full fledged hospital. After their return from England the youngest son Ahmar was born. The elder one was named Amir   who has gone to England for FRCS after becoming a medical graduate. Their daughter is married to Shamima’s son Azfar who is a heart surgeon besides being an excellent human being. The inherent humility of his nature reminds me of the semblance with Tarique. Of course, whole lot of his admirable traits have been inherited from the his own parents.
